Dewey was first diagnosed with cancer following an apparent exploratory surgery on 21 April 1954. One year later he was hospitalized in Rockford Memorial Hospital for one month until his death on 24 April 1955 exactly one year and three days later.

Dewey Renton started his own plumbing business in Rockford and upon his death, his four sons took over the business calling it Renton Brothers Plumbing. His son, Jerry Renton, spent time in the military and upon his discharge moved to California so he had very little to do with the plumbing business. Supposedly both Roger and John were not satisfied with the third brother, Don's workmanship and ethics in the business so Roger and John both asked Don to leave the business. Donald Renton's share was bought out by both Roger and John leaving only those two sons to run the business. Don then entered into real estate and continued in that line of business for the rest of his life. Upon Roger's death in 1972, John kept running the business with the assistance of his sons but the business was never as much as it once was. General Notes:
Was Hilda born in Sweden or Illinois? There are family stories each giving different views. There are only two official documents and they also give different views. One thing is clear and that is that her father, Justus Frisk, immigrated to the U.S. in 1901 while her mother, Ottiliana, followed from Sweden one year later in 1902.
The 1910 US Census indicates Hilda's birth year as about 1903 and a birth location of Illinois.
The 1920 and 1930 US Censuses indicates her birth year as 1901 and a birth location of Sweden. The 1920 US Census indicates an immigration date of 1902 but the 1930 US Census indicates that she immigrated in 1905.
The misleading 1910 Census would seem to indicate that as soon as Ottiliana arrived in the U.S. in 1902, she became pregnant thus providing a birth year of about 1903 in Illinois for Hilda.
The best information comes from church records in Sweden which indicate that Hilda was born there in Sweden with she and her mother coming to the United States within the next year where her mother married Justus Frisk in Oct 1902 in Boston, Massachusetts. Because Justus had arrived in the US only one year earlier, the unanswered question remains if he actually knew her mother back in Sweden.

Was a contractor and built numerous homes in Rockford, Illinois. Lost everything in the crash of 1929. As he would build a house, then mortgage it, use the money to build another. He owed a lot on all of the houses, and everything went back to the bank. He later was a junk dealer and had a 2nd hand store in Rockford. Fathered at least 19 children, 2 with his first wife before she died in about 1912, and then at least 17 more with his second wife, 4 of whom died as infants.

Holmes, 75, 10517 Ventura Blvd., who died Saturday in a local hospital after a long illness, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Thomas M. Delehanty funeral home, 401 River Lane. The Rev. Mr. Holmes was born April 17, 1881, in Cherry Valley and lived in the Rockford area all his life. He married Josephine Fanning in Elgin. He was a building contractor for 40 years, retiring in 1947.

Radford F. Holmes, 53, 10517 Ventura Blvd., reportedly suffering from an incurable disease, was found hanged in his garage Tuesday evening. He had apparently hanged himself, sheriff's deputies said.
Mrs. Lela Holmes, his wife, discovered Holmes' body hanging from a rafter by a plastic water hose.
Holmes had recently returned from St. Clare Hospital, Monroe, Green, WI.
Survivors include his widow, Lela, two daughters, Mrs. Richard Eudey and Mrs. Hylan Gray both of Rockford; one son Raymond, Rockford; 11 sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Beaird, Great Falls, MO., Mrs. Lester Roinson, Nampa Idaho, Mrs. Lester Bjork, Mrs. Mae Lundall, Mrs. Clem Phalen, Mrs. Roger Renton and Mrs. John Renton, all of Rockford, Mrs. Alberta Hall of Henderson NV, Mrs. Jerry Renton, Pamona CA, Mrs. Albert Kirby, GA and Mrs. Marvin Swanson, Winnebago; Three brothers Emerson, Rockford, Robert, Topeka, and Harold, CA; and 7 grandchildren.
Services will be at 1PM Friday in the Delehanty Furneral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Garden.

Swanson, 72, of Winnebago, died Thursday, July 18, 2013, in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, surrounded by her loving family, after a short illness. Born August 18, 1940, in Rockford, the daughter of Frank and Josephine (Fanning) Holmes. Lois married Marvin Swanson on January 12, 1957, in Dubuque, Iowa. She was an active member of Allied Seniors of Winnebago County. Lois enjoyed being an antique picker and finding bargains at garage sales, besides completing crossword puzzles. Being Mom, Grandma and G-G was her passion, always supporting all the school and family activities. Lois is lovingly survived by her husband, Marvin Swanson; children, Timothy (Kim) Swanson of Stillman Valley, Marvin (Dorian) Swanson Jr. of Charlevoix, Mich., Tammy (Art) Pratt of Byron, Kristi (David) Funk of Byron, and Shawn (Kathy) Swanson of Rockford; twelve grandchildren; and she is G-G to six great-grandchildren. Lois is also survived by her sister, Patsy Renton of Rockford; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and fifteen siblings. Lois's family would like to thank the staff of OSF St. Anthony Medical Center for their care and support. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date. Family Notes: Was called, "Josey". Estranged from Frank, he repeatedly left, came back, hence the later pregnancies and children. She lived in a house in South Rockford that the kids built for her. She worked as a maid, cook.
Cause of death - slipped on a throw rug, hit her sewing machine. Died later due to Pneumonia at the hospital.
Further it is rumored that Frank "bought" Josey from her parents in Chicago when she was 14 years old (1918). Frank already had two little girls at home and needed a wife to take care of them.

Greenview Ave., mother of 10 daughters and four sons, will be held Saturday, March 5, at 1 p. m. in the Julian-Poorman funeral home, 304 N. 5th St.
The Rev. Clyde P. Karriker, pastor of Messiah Lutheran church will officiate. Burial will be in Willwood Burial park. Friends may call in the funeral home Friday night from 7 to 8:30 o'clock.
Mrs. Truckenmiller died Wednesday morning in Rockford Memorial hospital after a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 21, 1894, in Indianapolis, Ind., daughter of John and Anna Fanning. She moved to Rockford from Chicago 55 years ago. On Aug. 15, 1959, she was married to Charles Truckenmiller. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran church.
Survivors include her husband; 10 daughters, Mrs. Mae Mattus, Mrs. Venus Bjork, Mrs. Allice Phelan, Mrs. Mary Renton, Mars. Carol Renton, all of Rockford; Mrs. Gertrude Baird, Great Falls, Mont.; Mrs. Alberta Hall, California; Mrs. Grace Kirby, Nevada; Mrs. Joann Renton, California; and Mrs. Lois Swanson, Winnebago; four sons, Radford, Emerson, and Harold Holmes, all of Rockford, and Robert Holmes, Kansas; a sister, Mrs. Helen Carey, Rockford; and 38 grandchildren.
