MIDDLETOWN, RI -- Elaine Mary Knauf Lussier, 90, of Middletown, died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 surrounded in love by her family at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.

She was the devoted wife of Andre J. Lussier, happily married for 63 years.

Born in Saratoga, Winona Co., MN on March 5, 1924, the daughter of the late Arthur E. Knauf and Dolores L. Hemelberg Knauf. She was raised on a farm in Saratoga attending the area schools.

During her husband's 31-year career in the NAVY, she moved from coast to coast, tending their children and home with her steady, calm hand. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Newport Shipyard, retiring in 1987. After 20 years of night courses, she graduated in 1990 from URI with a degree in psychology.

Mrs. Lussier was a communicant of St. Lucy's Church, a member of the NAVY Wives Club of America 197, a Girl Scout Leader and an avid gardener.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Mitchell J. Knauf in 1986.

Besides her husband, she will be greatly missed by her children, Rita A. Lussier Schenck of Jamestown, RI and Denise M. Lussier of Providence, RI; her sister, Viola Ann Knauf Kotas of Escondido, CA; and her grandchildren, Geoffrey K. Brownell and Meredith Lussier Schenck.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014 from 5-8:00 p.m. at Hambly Funeral Home, "Brick House", 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport, RI.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Lucy's Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.

Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park, Howland Avenue, Middletown, RI.
