Viola Grace (Kramer) Kubicek, age 93, of Dodge Center, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Fairview Nursing Home from complications of a stroke. Vi was born March 8, 1909, on the Kramer family farm near Hayfield, Minnesota, in Dodge County. She was the third of nine children born to Emma (Baudoin) and Gustave Kramer. She graduated from Hayfield High School in 1927. In 1919 she received her elementary education degree form Winona State University. She spoke of her college days as wonderful fun-loving times as were the summers spent working at her Aunt Mary Cran's restaurant in Hayfield. Vi taught school in Sergeant and Brownsdale, Minnesota, until her marriage June 27, 1933, to Bernard (Kubie) Kubicek in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They made their home in Blooming Prairie. She became politically active and was former Democratic chairperson for Steele County and worked with the Hubert Humphrey and Eugenie Anderson campaigns. She enjoyed creative arts, braiding rugs, quilting, collecting and refinishing antiques, going to garage sales and sewing. She also cut hair for her family and friends for many years. Preceded in death by her husband, "Kubie" in 1970, she later moved to Dodge Center.
