Notes from Robert C. Westphal, Jr: When Roy and Anna were first married, the made their home in Berwyn, Illinois just west of Chicago. Roy worked as an electrician (1920 census). Shortly thereafter, Anna became pregnant and gave birth to their daughter, Dorothy Ann in July of 1920. During this time, Roy's mother, Minnie, who had lost her husband Carl in 1916, lived with them at their home in Berwyn, likely assisting Anna with her new baby. Minnie also owned and operated a confectionary shop in Chicago.
Roy and Anna then moved to 51 Quincy Street in Riverside, Illinois, where their next 3 children were born (Roy Jr., 1922, Walter, 1923, and Robert, 1925). In late 1925, Roy, Anna, Roy's mother Minnie, and their 4 children, moved to Cleveland, Indiana where Roy bought a chicken farm that was destroyed by a tornado in 1928. In March of 1928, Roy's mother Minnie passed away, and in September Anna gave birth to John, their 6th child. After the farm was destroyed, the family decided to move back to Chicago and lived on Keystone Avenue until 1931. After the birth of their 7th child, Edward, they moved to Wisconsin. During the move, the truck carrying their furniture, driven by a Mr. Lagers of Baraboo, Wisconsin, rounded a corner near Lake Geneva, WI, and lost the entire load of furnishings and belongings into the lake.
Arrived at Plainville (Plainville School), Lake Delton, George born. Moved into Baraboo, worked in tavern. Bought tavern from Leonard Briggs in 1932. Owned and operated the Riverside Tavern in Baraboo for the duration of WWII. Moved then to Okalona, AR, then to Avenal and Atascadero, CA. Upon the death of his wife, Anna, Roy moved for a short time to Las Vegas, NV. Relocated to Fremont, CA where he lived with his son, Robert, and then moved to Rio Vista, CA. Relocated to Challenge, CA (near Oroville ), and finally to Olivehusrt, CA (north of Sacramento) where he died in 1969. Lived in Olivehurst with a Georgia Traylor.
