NOTE - This obviously is the correct family but for some reason, the enumerator gave Edward's birth year as 1873 instead of the expected 1863 and his age as 26 instead of the expected 36. .
Marriage Notes:
There is a 1900 US Census record from Williamstown, Dodge County, Wisconsin for an Edward Schultz and wife named Emma. They have 5 children living with them and 2 other children had died. If the birth date and age on this census form for this Edward Schultz are correct, then this was a different Edward and Emma Schultz that just happened to also be living in Williamstown at the same time. This Edward's birth date was given as Sep 1873 instead of the expected Sep 1863. His age was given as 26 which correctly supports the 1863 birth year that was given on the form.
If this was not a different person then could this be a complete mistake by the enumerator and gave his birth year and age off by 10 years? I think it probably was a gross error because the oldest daughter living with them was Clara who was born in Nov 1888 which fits with the 12 APR 1887 marriage date as supplied by Robert Westphal. Otherwise, that would have meant that the father on the census form was only 14 years old when he conceived his daughter, Clara.
Apparently the enumerator was not very proficient in basic arithmetic. The ages and the birth years for several of the children are off by one year.
What this means is that the 1900 US Census is most likely for the correct Edward Schultz and family. ------------------------------------------------------------------
The 1905 Wisconsin State Census in Williamstown shows a divorced Emma as the Head of Household and all of her children living with her. There is also another 1905 Wisconsin State Census which shows 15 year old Edwin Schultz living with Julius and Katie Freise family as a "servant". Julius and Katie may be the parents of Emma and Edwin was temporarily living with them when the enumerator arrived at their house. After 1905, there are no other records for Emma. Since she was only about 38 years old at the time, it is very likely that she was re-married but no records can be found. --------------------------------------------------
