The 1900 US Census shows one child in the household, Viola Lange, age 5, who was noted as the "wife's daughter". Obviously, she must have had a different biological father than Ferdinand Mayer but it is unclear if Kate's maiden name was Lange or if that was her married name from a previous husband. No marriage document between Ferdinand and Kate has yet been located and such a document may not even show if the bride was previously married.
