Laura was married at the age of about 16 years while her husband was 25. After about 15 years of marriage and 3 children, she was divorced and leaving the children with the husband, she was remarried no more than 4 years later in 1904 to Alf Milton Rhoades who was about 8 years her senior. It is not certain if she was divorced from her second husband but her death certificate indicates her marital status as divorced.

NOTE - The marriage register book from Kalamazoo, Michigan probably has some errors in the entry for Jerome and Laura. The only available source image has its entry dated 1883 even though all of the other entries in the surrounding pages are from 1886-1887. In addition, the entry for Jerome and Laura and several others that were dated 1883 all have a line through them as if to indicate that they were cancelled, never took place, or for some other reason.

It is doubtful that Jerome and Laura's marriage actually took place in 1883 otherwise Laura's age would have been only 14 years old. There is another source citation for this marriage but without an available source image which has the date of 1885 instead of 1883.
