bullet  General Notes:

Lewis Edward Allerton Sr. was born February 13, 1915 in Canton, Ohio to Samuel Sidney and Mamie Belle (Anderson) Allerton. Lewis grew up in Omaha where he attended grade school and graduated from Omaha North High School in 1933. As a young boy Lewis enjoyed cars, football, and baseball--during which he received an injury that would follow him all of his life.

He married Carolyn Mae (Keefe) Gorman on May 3, 1941 at the Sarpy County, Nebraska court house. They raised their family of three: Bill, Lewis Jr., and Carolyn in the Omaha area before moving to Valley about 15 years ago.

Lewis worked for the Civilian Corps in the early 1930's, a security guard at the Martin Bomber plant in Bellevue during WWII, as a Boiler repairman and truck mechanic before coming a truck driver, spending his last 20 years with Bee Line Transfer. After retirement, Lewis and Carolyn worked for Motel 6 and Roadway Inns managing and maintaining motels around the country. Lewis loved his dog Dolly and visits from the family but his greatest love was his wife Carolyn. The closeness they shared for so many years left a large void in his life when she passed away in June of 2002.

Lewis passed away Thursday, May 4, 2006 at the Valhaven Nursing Home in Valley, Nebraska at the age of 91 years, 2 months, and 21 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carolyn, brothers Warren W. Allerton Sr., and Leonard L. Marshall and sister Frances L. Boekel. Lewis is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Bill and Rita Gorman of Severna Park, Maryland and Lewis Jr., and Florence Allerton of Valley, Nebraska; his daughter Carolyn Smith of Omaha, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and sisters in law Lee Allerton of Riverside, California, Arlene Nelson of Omaha, Nebraska, and Maryrose Hegland of Fridley, Minnesota.
