J. Guy Wood, 83, of Millstone, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, in Roane General Hospital.
He was born in Calhoun, the son of the late Avery and Viola Umstead Wood. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was retired from Willard C. Starcher Co., Spencer. He was a member of Stoney Point Church, where he had taught Sunday School for 50 years. He was also a lay speaker.
Surviving are his wife, Velma Booher Wood; one son, John Wood and wife Kathy of Grantsville; four grandchildren, Angela Wood of Big Bend, Audrey Renee Wood of Mt. Zion and Chandra Lynn Wood and Benjamin John Wood, both of Grantsville; two great-grandchildren, Jada Ferrell and Brennan Ferrell, both of Grantsville; one sister, Thelma Wyer of Grantsville; and two brothers, Thomas Avery (Pete) Wood of Sand Ridge and O'Dell Wood of Stumptown.
He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald G. Wood; three brothers, Romeo, Denver and George Wood; and one half-sister, Belva Carpenter.
Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Homer Hensley officiating. Burial was in Gibson Cemetery, Arnoldsburg.
