• His obituary was published in the Marietta Times on 15 February 1937 in Marietta, OH.

7 James Ira Slider, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Slider of 901 Front Street, was asphyxiated in the bathroom of the family home early Sunday morning as the result of gas fumes from a faulty hot water heater. His body was found in the bath tub when his father went to the home at 7 a.m. Sunday. When he opened the bathroom door monoxide gas fumes coming from the gas heater was stifling.

Dr. H. W. Riggs, Washington County coroner who investigated pronounced death accidental and due to asphyxiation.

The Slider family had moved from their home during the flood to higher ground and had been living with relatives on higher ground since. The young man left the home of his relatives at 4 a.m. according to his father, to go to the family home to light fires for drying out the house and was alone in the house evidently taking a bath when he was overcome by fumes.

Funeral services will be held at the home, 901 Front Street, on Wednesday at 3 p.m.. Internment will be made in Valley cemetery.

Surviving with the parents, Joseph and Arvanna Reynolds Slider, are the brothers and sisters, Reuben, Vioila, Hallie, and Joseph Slider and the half-sisters who are Mrs. Gathie Ritchie and Mrs. Emma Kirby. The father of the deceased is employed in the Marietta street department.
