Tessa Tennant Poling, 100, of Davidsonville, Md., died Friday, Feb. 4, 200 5, at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

She has lived in Davidsonville with her daughter, Kathryn, since October 2000. She had previously lived in Grantsville, WV

She was born Nov. 11, 1904, in Rivesville, WV, the daughter of the late William and Edith Boor Tennant. She was a graduate of Calhoun County High School; has a bachelor's degree from Glenville State College, graduating with honors; and a M. A. from West Virginia University. She is a retired elementary school teacher with 38 years of service in the Calhoun County school system. She was a life member of the West Virginia Association of Retired School Employees, Glenville State College Alumni Association, West Virginia University Alumni Association and a member of National Retired Teacher's Association. She was a charter member of Phoebe Cunningham chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution and a charter member of Alpha Iota of Alpha Delta Kappa, the international honorary sorority for women educators.

She was a member of the Calhoun County Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grantsville and the Fell Kennedy Sunday school class.

Surviving is one sister, Mabel Kinter (102) of Phoenix, Arizona.; two daughters, Kathryn Sprouse of Davidsonville and Edith Yeager of Sewickley, Pennsylvania; two granddaughters, Jennifer Anderson of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Susan Coyle of Sewickley, Pennsylvania; and one great-granddaughter, Ava Tessa-Estelle Coyle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Corel Poling in 1984 and seven brothers and sisters.

Services will be private and burial will be at Bethlehem Cemetery.
