Jacob Graff Biography
Jacob Graff was born in Germany in 1844, son of Henry Jacob Graff. Jacob came to America in 1855 with his parents and his grandfather. They located in Black Wolf, Winnebago, Wisconsin. Jacob was the oldest of the family. The others were: Henry, Christian, William, Charles, Elizabeth, Lizzie, Ellen and Anna. Jacob came to Minnesota in the early days and was engaged in the transfer business, his routes being from Elba to Saint Charles, and from Plainview to Minneiska. When the railroad made such work unnecessary, he took up farming on forty acres of land in section 21, Whitewater township. Some time after his marriage he moved onto the homestead of his father-in-law, David Finley, consisting of eighty acres, in section 21, Whitewater. He made many improvements and was very successful. He died in 1905 at the age of sixty-two years and one month. His good wife died 25 Nov 1912, at the age of seventy-nine years, seven months and twenty-two days. At the time of her death she was one of the oldest residents and one of the oldest settlers of Beaver valley. Jacob Graff was married in 1870 to Sarah E. Finley, born in Delaware, 3 Apr 1833, daughter of David and Freanah (Kiser) Finley. Mr. and Mrs. Graff were blessed with three children: Ella F., born in 1872; George William, born in 1873, and Ada Sarah, born in 1875.
