bullet  General Notes:

Mother was cremated and her ashes were sprinkled in Belmont Harbor in Chicago, IL. by my Stepdad, John Fairchild.

A little about my Mom. She was a hard worker, I have lots of good memories of her. Lets see, I remember when I was about maybe 5 years old, I went outside to play. It was a snowy day, lots of snow on the ground. She told me to not get wet. I went to play with some of my friends, we had a ball. We built dams with snow, to back up the water, and what did she say " DON'T GET WET!" Obviously I went home soaked and freezing! Guess what I had to eat for supper, Cold milk and bread in a bowl. That was my punishment! To this day, even thinking about that combination makes me sick!

While dad was in the Navy, once a week my Mom would take me to the movies. I always looked forward to that. That was OUR time together, because I also had a little sister. And in the summertime, while Mother was working, I would always meet her at lunch time at Zickers Corner Drug Store. Mother and her girlfriends would walk up there for lunch everyday. I always had a tuna salad sandwich and strawberry soda. I remember my mom getting mad at me one time, I was out playing down the street, she come after me with a little stick.... I ran all the way home ahead of her, so she wouldn't spank me.

When Dad and Mother split up, Mother moved to Chicago, IL. When she got situated, she would have my sister and I go into Chicago and spend time with her, during our school vacations, etc. And she always at least once a month would take the train out to see us, and spend a weekend with us. We sure did love her, and I miss her so much. She died at a young age, she was 51 years old.

The death record for Edith by the state of Illinois indicates that she was buried at Graceland Cemetery in Chicago on 13 Feb 1969. But family records indicate that she was actually cremated. There will probably be researchers that will claim that she was really buried but I suspect that the Illinois form relating to the disposition of the body do not distinguish between a burial or cremation. Thus, she most likely was cremated on 13 Feb 1969 at Graceland Cemetery.
