  General Notes:

On the 1900 US Census, Andrew's wife was listed as "Minnie Renton" instead of the expected "Sarah Renton". If this was a nickname for Sarah, then it was the only time it appeared on a document.

There are some peculiar entries for the marriage record for Andrew Renton and Sarah E. Harvey as recorded in the Wayne county clerk's book for May 1890. Sarah listed her age as 34 making her year of birth 1856. Sarah's name is first entered normally as "Sarah E. Harvey". However, on the next line her name is entered once again as what also appears to be "Sarah E. Harvey" but some research indexes may show it as "Sarah E. Haney". I've looked at the actual image and the second entry looks to be the same as the first, that is, "Harvey". Usually this second entry of the bride's name is to show her true maiden name if she had already been married before. She listed her father's name as Jason Harvey and mother as Jane Beggs (believed to actually be Biggs). I can not explain why Sarah's name would be entered the same twice unless she was previously married to someone with the same surname.

But here is where the story gets a little stranger. There is another previous record of a marriage between a Sarah E. Harvey and Thomas Jefferson Terry in Sumpter, Wayne County, Michigan on 16 Nov 1876. This Sarah Harvey listed her age as 20 making her year of birth 1856 and her birth location as Romulus, Wayne County, Michigan. This Sarah's marriage was witnessed by Jesse R. Biggs and Mary E. Biggs, residences in Van Buren of Wayne County which is where Jason Harvey and wife, Elizabeth lived in the 1870s. (Wayne County, Michigan, page 342, record 1644, year ending 31 Dec 1876.)

Are these the same two Sarah E. Harveys? I am convinced that they are the same. I believe that this was the second marriage for both Andrew Renton and Sarah E. Harvey and that Sarah's name at the time of her marriage to Andrew Renton was really Sarah E. Terry. I believe the county clerk made a mistake on the first line and instead of entering "Terry", she entered her maiden name of "Harvey" which ended up being the same surname on the second line.

Notice that there are two different marriage sources each showing a slightly different date but each also showing a different event location. One shows the small village of Northville while the other shows the small village of Martinsville. The two villages are about 30 miles apart and in a different township. Each source reference is taken from a marriage register prepared by the County of Wayne, Michigan.
