bullet  General Notes:

His actual birth location seems somewhat clouded. The Boone County, Illinois Birth Register shows his birth location to be in the small village of Blaine in McHenry County. The birth register also indicates that he was not given a name at the time of birth but Ernest Ellsworth was added to the records on 19 Mar 1943.

His marriage record in 1930 gives his birth location as the small village of Poplar Grove in Boone County which is about 4 miles away from Blaine. At least one researcher gives Crystal Lake, McHenry County, Illinois which is about 20 miles away from Blaine.

Ernest appears in the 1900 US Census with his parents in Marengo Township, McHenry County, Illinois. In 1910, his parents moved to Whitman County, Washington and Ernest stayed behind where he appears in the US Census living with his married brother, Roy, in Harvard, McHenry County, Illinois. In 1913 he was married to Martha Witte in Woodstock, McHenry County, Illinois. In 1920 he appeared in the US Census living with his wife in Sigel Township, Chippewa County, Wisconsin. In 1930 he was widowed and living with 3 children from his first marriage. Also living in the household was a housekeeper named Bertha M. (Renton) Burch who he would marry within the next 6 months.

NOTE - Bertha's marriage record to Ernest Troupe suggests that her married name at the time was Burch, so then she must have had a second husband named Burch following her first marriage to Francis Dixon. This record would seem to be her third marriage in spite of it indicating that it is only the 2nd marriage for Bertha. It does provide the correct age for Bertha, her correct birth location, and the correct names of her parents. The location of Boone County, Illinois is only a few miles away from where Bertha's mother was living in McHenry County, Illinois.
