Obituary
Gene H. Galstad, 66, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday April 15, 2007 at his home in Sparta after a long illness. He was born July 11, 1940 to Hjalmer and Gladys (Anderson) Galstad in La Crosse. He was baptized and confirmed at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. After graduating from Viroqua High School in 1959, Gene enlisted in the U. S. Navy where he served in the Philippines. He was united in marriage to the love of his life Shirley Jacobson on February 17, 1962 at the Church of the Nazarene in Viroqua. Gene retired in 2002 after 32 years at Fleming (Gateway) Foods in La Crosse. He was a member of the Coon Valley American Legion Post #116. Gene was very active in church activities and offices throughout his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all of nature. He was an avid reader, especially of the Bible. Gene treasured spending time with his family and the fun vacations with them over the years. Survivors includes his wife, Shirley, 4 children Kimberly (David) Pieper of Galesville, Laurie (Thomas) Lightfoot of Sparta, Kelly (Ben) Engelbrecht of Green Bay, and Todd Galstad of La Crosse; 7 grandchildren Jessica Pieper, Jordan, Alex, Trystan, and Zach Lightfoot;Anthony and Aaron Engelbrecht; 1 brother Richard (Gloria) Galstad of Coon Valley; 1 sister Diane (Elder Jr.) Carson of Chaseburg; an uncle Otis Anderson of Coon Valley; a sister-in-law Phyllis Galstad of La Crosse and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 brother Jim Galstad; 2 sisters Donna Galstad and Harriet Myhre; a niece Melissa Galstad; a sister-in-law Elaine Galstad, and a brother-in-law Bernard Myhre.

Gene married Shirley Jacobson on 17 February 1962 in Viroqua, WI. (Shirley Jacobson was born about 1942 and died after 2012.)
