John H. Markey, son of Daniel J. Markey, was born in Frederick City in 1835. For a long period he was a shoe merchant in his native city. For forty years he was one of the highly esteemed and prominent men of the community in which he lived.
In religion, he held membership in the Episcopal Church.
Politically, he was all his life a supporter of the Democratic party.
