Mary Estella Carr ^{1 2}

  General Notes:

There are two death source citations often used with Mary Estella Carr, the United States Social Security Death Index and the Michigan State Death Index. However, there are three major problems with these citations.

The first is that each shows her maiden name of Carr instead of the expected "Mary E. Renton", her married name. Women that have been married almost always will have their social security account name changed to reflect their current married name.

The second problem is that each citation references a different birth date than what researchers have assumed is the correct date. The citations each show 10 Feb 1911 as the birth date instead of the expected 7 Nov 1910.

And the third problem is that each citation shows a different death location that varies with what researchers have assumed to be the correct death location of Detroit, Michigan. The Social Security Index shows a location of Alma, Gratiot County, Michigan while the Michigan State Death Index provides a death location of Pontiac, Oakland County, Michigan.

There were multiple Carr families living in Pennsylvania around 1910 and there were several Mary E. Carrs born in the time frame of 1910-1911. I'm not convinced that either one of these citations is for the correct Mary Estella Carr. I think more documentation is needed.

NOTE - The relationship to Handley Renton is confusing. How can this 2 year old be a nephew to Ernest Carr? I think it probably should be Grandson instead unless somehow Ernest Carr is related to another Renton. There was a surname written in on the line with the name Handley but it was erased. Additionally, the census form shows that this was the second marriage for Mary Carr.
