He was a farmer and a business man. Henry attended Wittenberg College. He was a Civil War veteran. He enlisted August 4, 1862 at the age of 24 in Company B, 120th Regiment OVI for three years service. He made Sergeant, and was wounded May 11, 1863 in the Battle of Thompson's Hill, Mississippi. He was discharged July 15, 1863.
