Dorothy May (Soop) Trexler, age 95, of Alma, formerly of Crystal, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Masonic Pathways in Alma, where she had lived for the past 10 years. Dorothy enjoyed her time at Masonic Pathways and made many friends there among the staff and other residents.
Dorothy was born June 19, 1915 in Detroit to Edson and Lillie (Wade) Soop. During her lifetime she lived in many places, including 12 years in Sioux City, Iowa where she graduated from high school and earned her RN nursing degree from the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing. She then moved back to Michigan where she worked in hospitals in Grand Rapids, Ypsilanti, Detroit and Greenville before ending her nursing career after working over 36 years at the Carson City Hospital. Dorothy spent the majority of her life in Crystal, Michigan. She maintained her sense of humor throughout her life and always enjoyed a good joke. Her smile and good humor will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Susan (Joel) Avery of Riverdale and her son Joseph Trexler of Ruby, MI. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Sarah Avery of Riverdale; Linda (Andrew) Eaton of Kodiak, Alaska; Shannon Trexler of Burtchville; Eric (Barb) Trexler of Port Huron; Lyle (Yolanda) Trexler of Port Huron. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren: Curtis Shovan, Danielle, Brianna and Kasandra (K.C.) Trexler; Nicole Hutchins, Lecia, Kyrsti and Lyle II Trexler; Tayla and John Eaton and three great great grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Edson and Lillie Soop, step-mother Selma Pahl Soop, infant sister, Lillian, daughter-in-law Nancy (Clute) Trexler and great-grandson Levi Avery Wojtowicz.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life memorial service will be held at Masonic Pathways, Doig Chapel on Sunday, March 6th, at 1 PM with Pastor George Ayoub officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 5th from 4-6 PM at Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home, Crystal. Interment of her ashes will be held at a later date near her great-grandson Levi at the Richland Township Cemetery south of Vestaburg. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home, Crystal.
