Johnson and his youngest son, William Dorr, were enumerated twice in the 1930 US Census. The first time was on 15 Apr 1930 in Parkersburg District, Wood County, West Virginia where they were lodgers at a rooming house. Johnson's occupation was listed as "Prosthetic Dentistry". The second enumeration was only 6 days later also in Parkersburg District, but this time Johnson and his son were living alone at a residence in which he stated that he owned it. His occupation was listed as "Mechanical Dentist Laboratory".

Following the death of his 1st wife, Courtney T. Ferrell, in 1927, Johnson was remarried to Pearl Jane Fletcher in 1932 at Wood County, West Virginia.
