• Her obituary was published in April 2012 in Paola, KS. Vera Bell Lentz, 88, of Paola, KS died April 19, 2012 at Life Care Center of Osawatomie, KS.
Vera was born March 27, 1924 in Paola to Lowell and Minerva (Harris) Darner. She graduated from Paola High School in 1942. In 1944, Vera was united in marriage to Marle C. Cortner of Osawatomie, KS. They lived in Golden, CO and became parents of two children Terry Marlen and Marla Cay.
Vera and children returned to Paola, KS in 1952. She was then employed at the Viva Shop, a ladies clothing store for the next 21 years. She and Bill proceeded to work another 25 years as co-owners of the Viva. She was well known for her 46 years at the Viva Shop \ "the place to go for the brands you know". Vera and her long-time partner Bill Lentz were married on May 29, 1986.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sister Thelma Henderson; and brother Eldon Darner. She is survived by her son Terry Cortner of Stockton, CA; daughter Marla Shawver and her husband Steve of Mequon, WS; one brother Kenneth Darner of Lane, KS; one sister Marlene Leach of Osawatomie, KS; three grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She loved her work, her home, and family and will be greatly missed.
