The second death of a well-known retired merchant to occur in Frederick within a little more than twenty-four hours took place at 8:30 o'clock Thursday morning when George W. Abrecht succumbed to a long illness at this home, 341 West Patrick street. He was aged 64 years, six months and 21 days. Like Henry J. D. Hagan, retired grocer who died Wednesday morning, Mr. Abrecht started at work at an early age. He was for many years in the retail meat business with his brother, the late John W. Abrecht. Following his brother's death, George W. Abrecht went into business for himself at 43 South Market street. He was engaged for forty years in the meat and grocery business, retiring seven years ago. He had been ill for the past six years. Mr. Abrecth was a son of the late Luther and Eliza Shipley Abrecht, of this city. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mahala S. Abrecht; one son, Deputy Sheriff, George F. Abrecht; one daughter, Mrs. Elmer W. Pickett and a brother Samuel Abrecht, all of this city. He was a member of St. John's Catholic church, the Independent Hose Company, the Knights of Pythias and the Independent Order of Foresters. Funeral will be held Saturday morning with brief services at the home at 9 o'clock, followed by a high mass of requiem at 9:30 o'clock at St. John's Catholic church. Interment Mt. Olivet cemetery. C. E. Cline and Son, funeral directors.
