• Her obituary was published after 18 December 2012. Donna Haarr, 93 years young, passed away from complications of multiple myeloma on Dec. 18 at Wheatland Memorial Healthcare in Harlowton.
An angel among us, she was a loving person who touched the lives of all who knew her; her memory will live on in our hearts. She was yet another of "the greatest generation" to have lived through the horse and buggy days to the technology of today '97 a life well lived!
Donna was born March 14, 1919, at the Gottlob ranch on Lower Sweet Grass, northeast of Big Timber to Peter and Bertha Gottlob. She attended schools at Howie, Lower Dry Fork, Sweet Grass High School and nursing school in Bozeman. She married Lars Haarr in Big Timber and they ranched in the Sweet Grass and Melville area before moving to Two Dot in 1949. Donna was clerk of the school district there for many years and also worked part time at the post office. She loved and collected many photos of early Two Dot history. She was a master seamstress, knitter and letter writer! Her applesauce and caramel corn were a favorite among many.
Mother will be remembered and missed by her beloved sister Kathleen (Tots) Langston of Sequim, Wash.; sons Dale (Shelly) Haarr of Kalispell, Loren of Harlowton; daughters Margaret (Leon) Lammers of Judith Gap, Elaine (Arville) Lammers of Shawmut; seven wonderful grandchildren; 15 precious great-grandchildren; special cousins, Betty Thompson of Billings, Maxine Tronrud of Melville; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, far and wide.
She was preceded in death by husband, Lars; granddaughter Larissa; brothers Dale, Keith and Lloyd; and sister Bertie.
Mother was a member of American Lutheran Church, Hospital Guild and the Red Hats.
In 2010 she started knitting baby caps for the newborns at St. Vincent Healthcare. During the following three years, her cousin Maxine, friend Evelyn and daughter Margaret joined the crusade reaching a total of 824 caps knitted at the time of her passing. When she entered WMH in September, her goal was to knit 1,000 caps, so the needles will be flying to accomplish this goal by her March birthday!! Mother and Evelyn were featured in the Yellowstone Valley Woman magazine regarding this knitting project. She was also featured in the recently published book, "Visions and Voices: Montana's One-Room Schoolhouses," by Charlotte Caldwell.
Heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the loving care given our mother during her stay at Wheatland Memorial Healthcare.
