Fred Hayes Denchfield, son of Thomas and Jennie Denchfield, was born December 1, 1876 in Kentland, Ind. and died 2 Sep 1967 in Greenwood County Hospital following an illness of five years.

When three years of age he moved with his parents to a farm near Richmond, Kansas, later moving to a farm 12 miles southwest of Eureka, where he grew to manhood. On February 11, 1903 he married Alma Holmes at the home of her parents on a neighboring farm. On March 1, 1903 they settled on the present farm, four miles north (sic: wrong) of Piedmont, where the family of seven children was born. Two small daughters died early in life and Tom, the eldest son died Jan 27,1955.

Mr Denchfield was a quite, unassuming man, a loving faithful husband and father, a sincere helpful neighbor and friend to all in need. His motto was "Live for, and lend a helping hand, to others." He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, of the home; three sons, Ray of Garden City, Claude of Wichita and Leslie of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Myrl) Shumake of Stewartsville, Missouri; a sister, Mrs. Earl (Edna) Torrance of Sulpher Springs, Arkansas; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the Piedmont school auditorium (and it was filled) on Thursdays, Sept. 5, 1967. The Rev. Duane Hopkins and the Rev. Dorne Garner were officiating clergymen. Burial was in Piedmont Cemetery. Forsberg Funeral Home, was in charge.
