John was a prisoner of the civil war at Limestone Bridge, Tennessee. There he came down with a lung infection and he later died with it. He was 5-1/2 feet tall, sandy hair, blue eyes. He was also a farmer in Ohio and Indiana.

• Military: Civil War, 9 August 1863 to 20 June 1865. ⁵ John enlisted in Company K, 100th Ohio Infantry on August 9, 1863 in Sandusky County, Ohio. He was taken prisoner at Limestone Station, Tennessee on September 8, 1863 and held until his discharge on June 20, 1865.
