NOTE - Although she appears on the 1870 US Census with an Arnsparger surname, she was actually Amanda Hardesty, daughter of Mary E. Arnsparger and Benjamin Hardesty.

Her mother was recently divorced from Amanda's father, Benjamin Hardesty, and Amanda was living with her maternal grandparents, Aaron Arnsparger and Matilda Simpson. The whereabouts of Amanda's mother and father are unknown in 1870 but in 1880 the US Census shows both the mother and her daughter living with Aaron and Matilda Arnsparger.

It appears that her grandparents probably reared Amanda Hardesty thus the reason that her surname on the 1870 appears as Arnsparger. When her mother joins them for the 1880 US Census, both are shown with the Hardesty surname.
