Sallie died in 1946 at the age of 81. She was "a pioneer lady who smoked a corncob pipe and done her snuff. A true hill lady." (Believed to be a quote from Vi Hoss, 2nd cousin to George Robert Ernspiger)
Sallie remarried after the death of Michael Genetter. She married Richard Carpenter and they lived on the Rough River near Hartford, Kentucky. However, her daughters Effie and Lou wanted their "Mama" in Evansville and would go get her from Kentucky and bring her back to Evansville. Sallie would then manage to get back to Kentucky only to have Lou and Effie come get her again. This story was told to Kathie Ernspiger by Darlene Ernspiger Egan on 2/28/95. Dan Ernspiger remembers visiting Sallie and Richard on the Rough River as a child.
