• His obituary was published in the Unknown newspaper on 4 March 1910 in , Monroe County, MO.

Charles A. McKinney, aged 73 years, died at the home of his son-in-law, Thos. Furnish, Sunday and following funeral services at the home was buried with Masonic rights at Holliday Monday afternoon. Deceased was born in Sangamon County, Ill, and came to Monroe county in 1883. He was a veteran of the Union army bearing seven wounds as a badge of his courage in battle, and is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Thomas Heathman, Mrs. George Sprinkle, Mrs. Thos. Furnish, and Mrs. Lawrence Wiley. Monroe county has no citizen more highly respected or who enjoyed more fully the esteem and confidence of his fellows. He was a good man in all that the term implies, and his death is a distinct loss to his county and his community.
