1. Obituary: Source: The Reporter, 12 October 2011. Allen Albert Finley, a retired pilot and major in the United States Air Force, passed away Monday, October 3, 2011, at age 89.

Known as 'Al,' he was a soft-spoken, kindhearted man who was loved by many. Al died at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base after a short illness.

Born in El Paso, Texas, Al was one of four children, along with his brothers, Lewis, Aaron, and Gordon.

He served in the Conservation Corps and later joined the Army Air Corps during World War II, where he earned his wings.

Al met his loving wife of more than 52 years, the late Sabina (Ann) Finley (nee Ugolick), while stationed at Westover AFB in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Together, Al and Ann had three children: Allen Jr. and Greg, both of Vacaville, and Robert of Sacramento. Al is also survived by his daughter, Dana; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his daughter, Debbie.

Al and family were stationed at Westover AFB in Mass., Goose Bay AFB in Labrador, and finally moving to Travis AFB in 1959. There, he led the base's Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, which provided medical patient transport. He retired from active duty in 1965 and later worked at Travis Base Operations. Al lived in the same house in Vacaville for 45 years.

After retiring from the Air Force, Al enjoyed restoring automobiles, photography, and traveling with his family. Al owned and operated a custom framing shop for more than 17 years. He was Vacaville's first certified professional picture framer and he absolutely loved his customers.

He will be missed.
