Hollar, Donald D., 87, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2010. Services will be 2 p.m., Monday, June 28 at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Donald Dean was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Abilene, KS, to Frank and Gladys Hollar. He is predeceased by father and mother, and brothers, Al, Dick and Lee Hollar. He leaves his beloved wife of 40 years, Bobbi Hollar and his brother, Maurice Hollar (Jean) and sister, Loyette Hollar Swanson (Ken); and his daughters, Juli Pearson and Linda Guignard and step-daughter, Robyn Harrell (Bob); 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. His family moved to Marion, KS, in 1934, where he graduated from high school in 1940. Don was an all-state football player at Marion High. He attended Wichita University from 1940 to 1943, where he lettered in football, basketball and track. He was a member of Phi Epsilon Fraternity, which later became Phi Delta Theta. Don volunteered for the Marine Corps, where he spent 3 years. He was a 2nd Lieutenant and ended up in the Pacific Theater. His unit was to invade Japan when the war ended. He graduated from Wichita University in 1947, with a degree in Petroleum Geology. He spent 4 years with Derby Oil Company and then became Chief Geologist with Carey Drilling, purchasing ownership of this company with geology consultation and investments before retiring. Don has served on the board of directors of the IPAA, Kansas Geological Society and was a member of KIOGA and American Assoc. of Petroleum Geologists. He is past President of the Petroleum Club, Crestview Country Club, Board Chair and volunteer for Harry Hynes Hospice and is active in Lifeline, Inc., United Way, and American Cancer Society. Don is a member of the downtown Rotary Club, where he is a four-school volunteer. The Hollars are members of the Eastminster Presbyterian Church. A memorial in his name has been established with Amedisys Hospice, 250 W. Douglas, S-101, Wichita, 67202 and Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 1958 N. Webb, Wichita, 67206.
