bullet  General Notes:

Maiden name may possibly be Fink. This is a story related by a great grand daughter who heard it from her mother regarding this lady. "I noticed that in the marriage license book that William Jasper's wife Susan has the last name of Lancaster. My mother'...(the subject's granddaughter)'...said that her last name was Fink. I asked her about the name of Lancaster and she said she had never heard of it. I am pretty sure that some of the information that I have come across did have her as Fink, but I have seen some that had Lancaster on it too. Mother tells the story about her grandmother that might be a clue. Susan's family were traveling by wagon train in Arkansas when her mother died. Susan, her brother and her father continued on until they settled there. One day her father was going to ride in to get supplies. He told them that he would be back by dark and for them to go into the cabin and not to make any noise or light any lights, for fear that the Indians might come there while he was gone. Night came and their father was not home. When daylight came he was still not there, so they ran over to a nearby cabin (I think it was a relative) and told them that their father had not come home. Some of the men formed a search party while the others stayed there in case the Indians came around. The men found Susan's father, he had been killed and scalped. Susan and her brother stayed with their relatives that were there. After awhile, Susan's brother came to Texas to find work. He came to Grayson County and stayed with a family there and worked for them. He kept in touch with Susan, but she was not happy, the relatives that she lived with were not especially good to her. Susan's brother asked the family he was staying with for permission to bring Susan there and let her live with them. This man and his wife didn't have any children so they really wanted her to come. Susan's brother went back to Arkansas to get Susan. They made plans to sneak away during the night. They were able to get away on Susan's brother's horse and she said that they rode it without stopping until they crossed the Texas border. They were afraid that they might be followed and made to go back. Susan lived with the people that her brother worked for until she married. I don't know the name of the man and his wife and my mother doesn't either, but I wonder if their name could have been Lancaster and maybe Susan used that name after she lived with them. I have no documentation of this story. I have heard my mother tell it through the years and I feel that it is correct." Rose (Perry) Perkins, daughter of Marie (Arnspiger) Perry.
