William A. Fast enlisted at the age of 24 on Nov. 15, 1864 in Co. E. of the 16th Iowa Infantry. He was a new recruit in 1864 apparently joining the regiment in Atlanta and proceeding with Gen. Sherman on his March to the Sea. Records show William was wounded in the left side.
