Johann Jakob Dorner, 4th born, and his sister Katarina Margaretha Dorner Fast, 3rd born, along with her husband immigrated from Germany to North America in 1746. His last name may have been changed to Derner. ----------------------------------------
From: Jacob Dorner German Pioneer of Frederick County, Maryland and Three Generations of Descendants 1748-1895 by Nancy Rice Kiddoo 1995 paper 140 pp; # 20 Order from author: 16 Woodfield Drive, Whippany, New Jersey 07981.
"Johann Jacob Dorner (also Darner, Durner, Turner, Tanner) of Ilbesheim, Landau, Germany, shoemaker, probably arrived in Philadelphia in 1746, paying his own passage. In Frederick County. by 1748, he applied for a warrant to 100 acres of land in Middletown Valley on Catoctin Creek. He married Anna Maria Barbara Sturm, and was naturalized in 1760. The same day he received a patent for his land, "Landau." Jacob and Barbara had six children, all of whom are followed through three generations in Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio, and Indiana. ----------------------------------------
[Brřderbund WFT 701, Vol. 1, Ed. 1, Tree #1276 submitted by Dorothy Danner] 16 December 1750: "Jacob Danner, a wheelwright's son from Schaffhausen arrived here more than a year ago. His brother Joh. Georg Danner arrived this year and lives at Christian Benners' at Skippack in Franconia township" .
Jacob Tonner arrived on the ship Lydia on 19 Oct 1749.
The above notice that appeared in the Pennsylvania newspaper where newly arrived immigrant is searching for brother is believed to be documentation of the beginning of the Frederick county Maryland Darners in America. It is not clear if these brothers actually met up with each other, but within the next ten years, Jacob had migrated to Maryland, to the Middletown area of Frederick, and the George Dorner listed in the Middletown Reformed Church records as being a member of said congregation in 1775 is likely his brother. George Dorner is listed several times later as a sponsor for baptisms in this church but never as a parent or with a wife, and the name was common with children of later generations in Jacob's family. George Derner is listed in later guardian accounts as guardian of Andrew's children Jacob and John.
Sometime, probably after 1757, Jacob Darner made his way to Maryland and on 10 Apr 1760 he became a naturalized citizen in the provincial court of Maryland. On 29 Sep 1760 he was granted a patent for 100 acres for a tract called "Landow". Jacob Derner or Turner also purchased in 1787, a second parcel from the honorable John Rogers, Chancellor of Maryland called lot #3, "Mason's Folly", for 184 and 3/4 acres.
From his will made Nov 1790, and probated in Frederick county on 29 May 1809, we discover the family of Jacob Ternor. This will is printed in full in "Jacob Beyser family supplement", 1989, page. 569-571. He left a widow Barbara and six children: Jacob, Andrew, Elizabeth, Catharina and Magdalena. ----------------------------------------
Jacob died intestate, but his heirs are named in a Frederick County Chancery Court case from August 1810: his widow Barbara, and his children Jacob, Mary (wife of John Shaffer), Katy (wife of Andrew Cadeck), Molly (w/o George Abrake [Ebrecht/Abrecht]), and Elizabeth (wife of Jacob Biser), and the children of his deceased son Andrew: George, Barbara (wife of Henry Snur), Mary (wife of John Castle), John (minor), and Jacob (minor). ---------------------------------------------
