• Her obituary was published in the Rockford Republic on 16 December 1919 in Rockford, IL.

11 Mrs. Anna Fanning, wife of John Fanning of 306 North Henrietta Avenue, succumbed to an illness of heart trouble and dropsy this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at St. Anthony hospital. She had been suffering for over a year. Mrs. Fanning was born in Indianapolis, Ind., January 26, 1871 (sic) and had made her home here the past thirteen years.

Surviving her are, besides the husband, four children, Mrs. Frank R. Holmes, 806 Elm Street; Rusell, Helen, and Elizabeth Fanning of this city and four sisters, Mrs. William Hart, 306 North Henrietta Avenue; Mrs. Minnie Kane, Mrs. Fred Kinnan, and Mrs. Wm. Mayer, all of Indianapolis, and two brothers, Charles and Martin Heitkam, of Indianapolis. The deceased attended St. Mary's church.

No funeral arrangements have been made.

John and Anna were married in and lived in Chicago where all of their children were born.

Their daughter Josephine's marriage to Frank Roy Holmes was "arranged" when she was 18. Frank's first wife had died and left him with 2 young daughters to raise so Frank needed a wife to assist him.

Helen met Kenneth John Carey in Chicago and they were married in Ken's home town of Rockford.

Russell was a journalist for The Boston Herald and married Evelyn Brown.

Their fourth child, Dorothy Elizabeth, died at the age of 15.
