• Her obituary was published in the Unknown newspaper in February 1924 in , Hamilton County, OH.

Mrs. Mary E. Lovell of 607 South Allin Street, widow of the late Thomas R. Lovell, passed away Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. she had been in failing health for about a year, her final illness dating back to the Christmas holidays. Dissolution was due to leakage of the heart.

Mary E. Arnspiger was born in Jessamine County, Kentucky, near Lexington, 26 Jul 1844. She grew to womanhood there and spent three years at Woodford college, Versailles, Kentucky. She taught school for several years and on 22 Apr 1869, she was united in marriage at Elkhorn, Kentucky, to Thom as R. Lovell. To this union two children were born, Miss Clifford A. Lovell, who died in 1899, and W. Payne Lovell, now business manager of the Clinton Daily Advertiser at Clinton, Iowa. The latter was circulation manager of the Daily Pantagraph for several years. There is also a granddaughter, Mrs. George Richardson, who resides in Chicago.

The husband, Thomas R. Lovell, who was identified with the G. H. Read & Brothers hardware store in Bloomington for a period of thirty-five years, passed away 10 May 1920.

Mr. and Mrs. Lovell came to Illinois in 1875 and located on a farm near Randolph. They moved to Bloomington in 1881 when Mr. Lovell became associated with the Read hardware establishment.

Mrs. Lovell was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal Church and up until the time her health began to fail was active in religious work. She was a woman of many commendable traits of character: was deeply devoted to her family and her home and her passing removes from the community one of its most estimable citizens.
