bullet  General Notes:

Was Lightfoot Williams born in Virginia or in North Carolina? There are multiple researchers that show his place of birth in 1769 as Burke County, North Carolina in spite of the fact that Burke County did not exist until 1777 and even then it was formed from Rowan County. None of the other researchers provide any specific source citations other than to reference the other researchers. In other words, they all copied one another.

The location of North Carolina as a birth location would be unique because none of his other siblings either before or after his birth were born in North Carolina. In fact, the birth locations of his siblings indicate that his parents remained in Virginia until after 1771 until they moved to Georgia by 1786.

Additionally, there is the specific source citation which gives his Christening location as Saint James Northam Parish, Goochland County, Virginia. This record specifically shows that Henry Williams and Ann Lightfoot were his parents. While this records indicates that this location was his Christening location, there is no reason to believe that the parents were in North Carolina for his birth but then returned back to Virginia for his Christening. His mother, Mary Ann, was born in North Carolina and her parents were both still alive and living in Lincoln County at the time of his birth so there is some possibility that for this one pregnancy she might have returned to her parents for the birth and then returned home after a few months to Virginia. But why did she give birth in supposedly Burke County while it seems apparent that her parents were in neighboring Lincoln County?

And one other unexplained move. If his parents continued to live in Virginia until sometime after 1771 and then moved to George, how and when did young Lightfoot end up in North Carolina to be married in 1792 at the age of 23? Did he leave his parents home in Georgia and head into North Carolina where he met and married Mary Ann Whitener or did his parents actually move to North Carolina instead of Georgia?
