2 Lona M. Connell, age 85, of Brooklyn, IA, died Thursday morning, December 8, 1994, at the Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn.
Lona Margaret Duffus was born October 12, 1909, on the family farm in Madison Township, Poweshiek County, north of Brooklyn, Iowa. She attended grade school near the family farm and was a graduate of Victor High School in 1928. She married Glenn A. Connell on June 28, 1930, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale near Nashua, Iowa. A son Harold was born to the couple in 1939. Lona was a homemaker devoted to her family. Her hobby was quilting and throughout her lifetime she produced many fine quilts, all handmade. During the years that her husband carried the mail, she also substituted for him. He preceded her in death in May of 1975. Mrs. Connell was a member of the Brooklyn Church of the Brethren where she was active until recent years, the Warren Willing Workers (W.W.W.) Club, a ladies club in Warren Township, and the Auxiliary of the Rural Letters Carriers' Association.

She is survived by a son Harold of Wichita, Kansas; a stepsons Warren of Englewood, Colorado; a step daughter, Pauline Rohrer of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Pearl Duffus and Marie Duffus both of Des Moines, Iowa. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Todd Connell of Wichita, KS, Steve Connell of Sandy, Utah, Rodney Connell of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Craig Connell of Englewood, Colorado, Pam Hester of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Randy Rohrer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kipp Connell of San Francisco, California and Nancy Connell of Hudson, Iowa; and eleven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, two grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Lona M. Connell, 85, of Brooklyn died Thursday morning, Dec. 8, at Brookhaven Nursing Home from complications resulting from cancer. Services were 2 :30 PM, Saturday, Dec. 10, at Nevenhoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn with the Rev. Dorie Hanson, Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in Brooklyn Cemetery. Memorials may be contributed to the home health care program through Grinnell Hospital.
