• His obituary was published in the Calhoun Chronicle on 7 September 1897 in Grantsville, WV.

Martin Stump, an aged and kind hearted citizen, died at his home on Daniel 's run Tuesday morning. He did his usual day's work in a blacksmith shop Monday and took sick about 8 o'clock Monday night and before 9 o'clock Tues day morning was a corpse. Interment in the family cemetery Wednesday. He leaves a wife, two daughters and two sons.
