General Notes:
INJURY PROVED FATAL Elmer Keener, who was kicked by a horse in February, laid to eternal rest Saturday Morning Word has been received here from Polk to the effect that Elmer Keener, residing a mile south and one mile east of the village, had passed away, death having resulted from injuries sustained by being kicked by a horse. It will be remembered that the Times-Gazette gave an account of the accident which occurred the fore part of February.
Mr. Keener was leading a horse out from the barn, when the animal playfully kicked up its hind feet, one of the hoofs striking Mr. Keener on the leg between the hip and knee, inflicting a severe wound.
The attending physician thought the injured man was getting along very favorably, considering his age, about 50 years, but shortly before his death on Thursday morning a radical change took place in his condition and he rapidly grew worse until the end came. Death was caused by a clot of blood, which, in its circulation, through the body, affected the heart.
Besides a wife, the deceased leaves children and other relative and many friends. The funeral occurred Saturday morning from his late home at 10 o'clock.
ELMER KEENER The subject of this sketch was born in Jackson township, Ashland county, Ohio, January 27, 1857, and died at his home one mile south and one mile east of Polk, March 20, 1907, his age being 50 years, 1 month and 20 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Adina Fast, of Nova, December 21, 1882. To this union was born one daughter, Clara, who is now the wife of John Bowman.
Several years ago he became interested in the salvation of his soul and with his loving wife, united with the christian Church at Sullivan, July 30, 1898, and since the organization of the Christian Church at Polk, had faithfully served this same as deacon, his services in this capacity always being performed in a patient Christian manner. The deceased is survived by a loving wife and devoted daughter and her husband, six brothers and three sisters. Mr. Keener had always been a lover of fine horses and it was while showing a fine horse to some friends that he had fitted for the market that he met with an accident that resulted in a broken leg and finally his death. The accident occurred February 1. He was recovering very rapidly until about two weeks ago when a complication of troubles affecting his heart and lungs set in, but with good care and tender watchfulness life gained the victory and he rallied. His family and friends were cheered with the hope of his recovery. But, alas! how soon were their hopes blasted, for on last Wednesday afternoon without any warning for a change in his condition his spirit took its flight and went to join loved ones on the other shore. Thus a father has been taken from an only child and loving wife. They traveled the stormy path of life hand in had for the past 24 years, but she is now left to battle with the world without the cheering smile and comforting words of a loved companion, and the daughter is deprived of a kind father's love and good advice which he constantly gave her. But God, who tempers the wind to the shorn lamb will protect them.
He was a kind neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need and was beloved by all. The funeral was held at the Christian Church, Polk, Ohio, Saturday, March 23. The services were conducted by Rev. Pearce, of the Ashland Christian Church. The text was I Corinthians, 10th. verse. He was laid to rest beside loved ones in the beautiful cemetery at Polk. His suffering and life work are over. May he rest in peace.
Alone unto our Father's will One thought hath reconciled; That He whose love exceedeth ours, Hath taken home His child. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 4
