⁸ Fred Murray, 85, retired Charlotte shoe merchant and past president of Michigan Retail Shoe Dealers association, died Tuesday at his home here after a two-year illness.

A lifelong resident of Charlotte, Mr. Murray had operated a shoe store here from 1907 until his retirement in 1952 He was a member of Lawrence Avenue Methodist church and former chairman of its board. He also was past president of Charlotte Rotary club and past commander of the local Knights Templar organization. He was a member of several Charlotte Masonic groups.

Surviving are his wife, Jessie; a son, Dr. Morris Murray of Saginaw; two daughters, Mrs. Marian Fisher of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Mrs. Jeanne Skellenger of Reed City; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Cooley and Mrs. Bernice Curtiss, both of Charlotte, and one great- grandchild.

Services will be held at 2 Friday at the Burkhead funeral home here with burial in Maple Hill cemetery.
