¹⁰ Charlotte --- Albert Murray, 83, one of Charlotte's older merchants, died Sunday following an illness of several weeks.

This was Mr. Murray's fifty-third year in the shoe retailing business at the same location, and his sixty-third year on the street. He helped organize the Michigan Retail Shoe Dealers Fire Insurance Co. of Lansing 28 years ago and had served as president ever since.

Born on a farm in Ashland county, Ohio, Feb 8, 1857, he moved with his family to Michigan when he was 18 months old and settled on a farm site three miles south of Charlotte. He obtained his education in the Charlotte public schools, then was employed in the James Shepherd dry good store four years, transferring to the Rollin C. Jones dry goods store for another six years. In 1886 Mr. Murray formed a partnership with a man named Daron and they engaged in the shoe business. Two years later he bought out his partner and since then had conducted the business in his own name. He married Miss Minnie Wheaton in 1881.

Surviving are the widow and their four children, Robert D., who has been in the store with father; Donald A., who had been connected with the Detroit schools three years, and Mrs. Boyden P. Moyer and Mrs. J. Harvey Rand, both of Charlotte.
