Menno married Mabel Dean Richards, daughter of Hiram Duane Richards and Emma Arvilla Worst, on 20 July 1913 in Ashland, OH.^{1 2 3} (Mabel Dean Richards was born on 22 March 1889 in Lorain, OH ^{1 2 3} and died on 15 May 1974 in Dearborn, MI ^{1 2 3}.)

Sunrise Wedding

A sunrise wedding Sunday morning united two of Ashland's most worthy young people, Miss Mabel D. Richards and Mr. Menno E. Althaus. The ceremony, which was witnessed by a few immediate relatives, took place at 5:30 A. M. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Snyder on East Fourth street and was performed by Rev. John I. Wean of the Methodist Episcopal church. Mr. and Mrs. Althaus left on the limited for a few days' visit in Cleveland, after which they will return to Ashland and make their home at 347 East Third street. The bride, for the past six years, has been employed as stenographer in the office of F. E. Myers & Bro., and in that position and in her circle of friends has won the regard of all. The groom is manager of the Althaus Studio and a photographer whose ability has built up a good business. Both have many friends who join in most sincere good wishes.
