Norman Fast, USN, Ret., 78, passed away June 23, 2010. Norman was born August 16, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio. He was a 1949 graduate of Scott High School, where he was a member and coach of the swimming team. He was the AAU swimming medalist from 1949-1954. Norman attended Purdue University from 1956-1957 and State Tech Institute from 1963-1964. He has been a resident of Memphis since 1961. Mr. Fast was a retiree of the United States Navy, having served from 1949-1973, following his retirement from the Navy, Norman worked for Lion Oil Company until 1999. He was a member of The Life Church of Memphis, Memphis Astronomical Society, Delta Amateur Radio Club, and the Fleet Reserve Association. He also enjoyed science fiction and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Kay; children, Kathy Talley, Dee Parker (Ben), David Fast (Carla), and Dorothy McLemore (Jerry); grandchildren, Micki Bell, Clara Taylor, Katherine McLemore, Jacob McLemore, Jonathan McLemore, Gena Parker, Chris Chapuis, Terri McCord, Chuck Price, Barry Worley, Kerry Swisher, Geoffrey Dunker, and Jackie Pavlinac; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille Fast; brother, Edson Fast; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Edson Fast and Iona Mae Fishbaugh Fast, and a sister, Dorothy Fast Oliver. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Sunday at Family Funeral Care. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday at the funeral home. Interment will take place in West Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery.
