Coon Tigner Crazy
For some time past Coon Tigner, a well known character of our town, has been drinking very hard. He lives in a little hut about two miles west of town, his only companion a dog. He lives on such game as he can secure, and on donations from neighbors. He works at times when it suits him. He is known as a crank, and when on the street is the subject for fun and frolic with the boys. The word came yesterday that he was violently crazy, dangerous, having his gun in hand threatening to shoot any one coming near. Doctors Mansfield and Lyon went out to see him. He was found sitting on his bed with his gun in reach. He had cut off his thumb with a old pen knife, and was carving at his finger and trying with pincers to pull it off. The doctors disarmed him and bandaged up his wounds. He was too weak from the loss of blood, and dissipation to be removed. The trustees have placed a man to take care of him, and when able will be taken to the infirmary. The doctors fear that blood poisoning may set in, and have but little hopes of his recovery. Thursday morning: Coon Tigner died last night.
