  Noted events in his life were:

• Disproven Name: Joseph Wells.
On the 1880 census after Mary Jane was remarried to William Drury, she lists two of her children from her previous marriage with the surname of Wells clearly written instead of the surname Webb. This was an enumerator error and their names should have been Webb instead of Wells. There is a different 1870 census which shows a Joseph Wells and wife, Mary Jane, living in Meigs County, Ohio and that may suggest that perhaps Joseph Webb's real surname was Wells instead of Webb. However, that same Joseph Wells and Mary Jane continue to appear together in the 1880 and 1900 census. The birth locations of that Mary Jane's parents on the 1880 and 1900 census prove that she was not Mary Jane Fast. In addition, the death certificate for their daughter, Mary Mariah Webb, clearly shows her father's name as Joseph Webb and not Wells.

• Disproven Death Date: 1867.
Some researchers give his death date as 1867 but that would be impossible because of a daughter that was named Fredona who was born in 1877. The daughters name was mistakenly listed as Fredona Wells on the 1880 census along with her sister, Mariah but this was an enumerator error and their surnames should have been listed as Webb instead of Wells or perhaps an error in reading the handwriting.
