"Ira Winfield Fast took his place as a public-spirited citizen. He supported the interests of the farmer and was a member of the local and the State Grange. He was a booster of schools and the cause of education. He was a community man and ready to lend a hand in helping every cause for civic betterment. His home life, known to his hosts of friends, was hospitable and beautiful. He died September 22, 1929, and was buried in the Mount Moriah Cemetery at Smithfield, Pennsylvania, after services in the Jacob's Lutheran Church of which both his great-grandfather, Francis Fast, and his great-great-grandfather, Nicklaus, had been charter members."
