"James Ellsworth Ferrell has been a leading merchant here since 1889. He is a Monongalia county product, though his parents, Robert R., and the late Delia M. Fast Ferrell, removed to Calhoun county, six months after the date of his birth on April 10, 1863. Here he grew to manhood, and spent sixteen years in the profession of teaching-serving four years as County Superintendent (1885-1889), before coming to this town. His store was destroyed by fire in 1906, but he kept his nerve, and was soon doing a good business again. On July 18, 1889. he was married to Miss Mollie Fling, only daughter of F. Gainer and Elsie Bush Fling, and they now have charge of the Ferrell-formerly the Fling hotel."
