bullet  Marriage Notes:

E-mail from Marjorie R. Tracy:
Inger Eliza (Emma Lide) Lightfoot met Burdette Spencer when he was a soldier. He had gone to Illinois and had enlisted in 1861. They were married in Elmira, Chemung, New York on 10 Apr 1862 which is where they ultimately settled. After the Civil War, Burdette brought Emma to Elmira for about 4 years, where their first son, Burr Leland, was born in 1867. They moved to Logansport, Cass County, Indiana, which is where my husband's grandfather Earnest Lightfoot Spencer was born in 1874. After Burdette died in 1916, "Emma" moved to Lily Dale, New York to the Spiritualist colony there and lived out her life.

Burdette and Emma had two sons, one of whom, Burr Leland, died in a fall from a bridge construction site. Their other son, Earnest Lightfoot Spencer, was my husband's grandfather.

There is a strange coincidence in the names of her son, "Earnest Lightfoot Spencer", and a son of her brother, Edward Levi Lightfoot, whose son 's name was "Ernest Spencer Lightfoot". Now, according to the book "The Sloopers", Edward Levi Lightfoot married Minnie Belle Burget in 1877, and his son, Ernest Spencer Lightfoot, would have been born well down the line, as he was the 8th of 12 children. So, there is a good possibility that Edward either named his son directly after Earnest Spencer, or the Ernest might be from someone who both Emma and Edward appreciated and named their sons for; plus possibly giving his son the last name his sister now had.
