   Another name for Harriet was Sarah Hartman.

  General Notes:

Her granddaughter, Hattie, was the informant on the death certificate for Harriet's son, David Fast. On that certificate, Hattie indicated that the maiden name of her father's mother was Harriet Hartman. Some researchers show David's mother's name as Sarah or even Sarah Hartman. Some show that his father, Martin, was married to both a Sarah and a Harriet, followed eventually by a marriage to Nancy Jane Bumpus. To me, it appears that Sarah and Harriet were probably the same person. I can't imagine the likelihood of a nickname coming out of either name so perhaps she had a middle name that she preferred or used most of the time, thus the reason we sometimes see both names. Harriet's gravestone in Saint Luke's Cemetery is a rectangular tablet of white sandstone that is moderately weathered and severely discolored. The inscription reads "Harriet, wife of Martin M. Fast, Died Nov. 19, 1852, Aged 41y 5m 21d".
